HOME VISITS.
For clients who test HIV positive, we visit their homes to assess the home conditions and the family attitude towards them. This is done with an aim of identifying their needs so that solutions can be made basing on the most problem affecting all clients. So far 40 families of the clients have been visited, 33 clients were found at their respective homes while 7 were not found at home. Areas visited included; Sseganga , Kyengeza, Kitinda, Nansomba, Jomba, Katikamu,Kassude, Lugungunde, Nabalanga, Kitulla and Luwami.
Family assessment was done only to those found at home. Most of them are living in absolute poverty where the needs are;
• Food
• Home care
• Child support
• Guidance and counseling
• Beddings
• Accommodation.
Most of the clients had the above needs while others faced a problem of neglect and abandonment from their relatives. To this psychosocial therapy is given to those infected with the disease and the family members are educated on how to care and manage people living with HIV.
During family visits the counselors have session discussions with each client, the sessions mainly focused on;
• The need for proper medical care
• Positive living
• Nutrition i.e. need for balanced diet and taking fluids for good health
• Hygiene i.e. they are made to understand the importance of sanitation of the home and their bodies. Especially in a situation of those with diarrhoea and wounds.
• For children below 14 years of age, their guardians are encouraged to love and not deny them the opportunity to attend school when they are not very weak.

To this there is great need to sensitize such communities. The LC’s are willing to mobilize the communities for sensitization. It’s also important to train home caregivers at village level who can help the HIV/AIDS patients during our absence. |
